I had a similar issue when i returned to AO. After some emails with their customer support people i was able to retrieve my old account. Its worth a shot, welcome back to AO!

I've been having similar issues, also since recent patch. Connection is fine, but freezing a lot. Using the new client. Running windows 8.1 intel i5 4690 cpu radeon 290x gpu 4gig.
