Need-to-know Guide

Post by Cratattak »

Edited 30/01/2024: Items now link to Auno.org instead of aoitems

This is a general guide anyone that are at endgame but aren't sure how to complete their toon or newbies leveling their first toon. I will keep adding to it. Please don't post comments for now, I'll let people post small guides for soloing on professions that I'm not experienced with soon. If you have questions/suggestions please send me tell ingame.

Index:
1. Websites and Bots
2. Searching for Items
3. Essential Items
4. Gearing at endgame
5. Soloing
6. Farming with 2-3 people

1. Websites and Bots

List of useful sites for AO:

Guides and Tools:
https://www.ao-universe.com/main/news : Contains guides on just about everything ingame. Very useful for getting information on raids before attending them.

http://kennyboy.org/ao/ : Compares the stats given by different different types of Symbiants.

Item Databases:
https://aoitems.com/home/ : NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Full item database for AO. Nanos and Perks tab at he top of the site very useful for finding which nano's you can use/need and where to get them.

https://auno.org/ : Another database for AO, has been updated recently to include all new gear and updated nanos. Contains comments on items which help in getting info about them.

https://ao.tinkeringidiot.com/tinkerpocket/ : Lists all symbiants, the pocket bosses who drop them, and the mobs/bosses that drop the pocket boss parts.

Setup Config:
https://aosetups.com/ : Setup simulator that includes IP/buffs/City benefits/towers etc. Very good for simulating setups, or using filter to find what items buffs what in certain slots. Highly recommended if planning twinks as you can use a shareable link to get advice.

https://auno.org/ao/equip.php : Older setup simulator, doesn't include IP/towers/City. Aosetups is preferable, but you may get linked configs here.

Global Relay Bot:
/tell darknet !register
Darknet is currently the most used global relay bot. It is used for buying/selling/looking for teams etc.
Do /tell darknet !rules for its rules and list of commands.

2. Searching for Items

Advanced Search on Auno:
Auno have an option to search for items with specific stats on them. These searches can be made to be very specific with set quality levels and requirements.

Quick and Easy Stat Searching:
Create a new config at Aosetups (you don't have to sign in) Under Sort by skill (Scroll down) you can pick a stat or search one. Now when selecting a Utility, Weapon or Armor slot, it will show items with the stat you selected at the top of the list and the amount of that stat that they boost. If you select one of these items, you can then scroll up and click its icon in the config to go to its Auno page. The comments on the item may help tell where it comes from and how useful it is.
This is a very good way if you're short on a stat and need to find how to boost it more. This is my preferred way of searching for stat buffing gear.

Searching for Nanos/Perks:
The best way to search for nanos or perks for your profession is to select your profession or search for them on Auno. You can also use the advanced search or !whatbuffs <stat> on an ingame bot, or ask players in game. Most buffs are well known to experienced players and they can tell you them quickly.

3. Essential Items

On top of your normal never-leave-OldAthens-without-it items such as Ammo/Lockpick/Health and Nano kits, there are a few other items that can really help you when raiding or exploring.

Hacked Boosted Grafts:
QL200 versions of these are sold by a merchant in Smuggler's Den, and then they must be hacked to be used by any profession. I have loads of these and can get more easily, so if you need some ask me in-game on Cratattak/Zanokia.

Hacked Boosted-Graft: Lesser Deflection Shield (Extended) : A must have for any profession that doesn't have its own reflects buff. It can also be used in shadowlands! But gets removed when zoning in SL. Very good if your in a small team with no reflect professions, or soloing.
Hacked Boosted-Graft: Hasty Augmentation Cloud : +10 Damage buff, good for the professions that dont have their own damage buffs.
Hacked Boosted-Graft: Enhanced Senses : +15 Buff to sense, good to have for any non-agent. It adds a small amount to some of your stats.
Hacked Boosted-Graft: Cloak of Fire : Does damage to an enemy when they attack you, good for any profession that doesn't have shield buffs.
Hacked Boosted-Graft: Playful Cub : Morphs you into a wolf! Short duration(10mins) however, little runspeed boost.
Hacked Boosted-Graft: Lesser Sparrow Flight : Morphs you into a reet. Short duration(10mins), +190 Runspeed which can be good when traveling through ShadowLands.
Hacked Boosted-Graft: Feet of Stone / Hacked Boosted-Graft: Lesser Paralyze with Indecision : Roots that are very useful in PVP. Both have seperate cooldowns so if you do pvp, get both.

Don't Leave OA Without:

An item that everyone should have: Aggression Enhancer. This is an extremely useful tool, target a mob then use this tool and the mob will aggro you while all its nearby friends dont! You don't need to have it equipped to use, just have it in your inventory or a bag. Great for outside bosses or in raids.

Always carry around a stack of Free Movement. Aswell as being essential for any profession that cant remove roots/snares, it removes calms that mobs can cast on you. A MUST FOR ENDGAME TOTW/SUBWAY. Mobs in these raids can cast calms, and even a low(ql100) free movement can help with these calms.

4. Gearing at endgame:

Along with the regular raids that run on Allianceraid, there are many other raids, bosses or missions that can be done to get very good and the best armor for your profession.

ICC Dailies

The ICC dailies are extremely good for getting both xp and item rewards. On top of the rewards from just doing the missions, you can buy ICC Peace Keeper Recall Beacon with ICC commendations. It teleports you to ICC, can be used in SL, and can be used in combat(not flagged pvp however).

The main one of note while trying to gear at endgame is Dust It Off (DIO). This can be done daily when the mission is available. It involves killing a Dust Brigade General in Perpetual Wastes. Then completing Dust Brigade 1 (DB1) followed by Dust Brigade 2 (DB2) and finally killing Ground Chief Vortexx.
All these steps can potentially be done with just 3 well geared 220s, so a full team can easily get through this daily quickly. It rewards a LOT of xp, ICC commendations and a random Dust Brigade Operative Armor Piece or(if your unlucky) Overtuned Mother Nitrogena. Aswell as the fact that DB1/DB2 can drop useful armor and good NCUs, parts of the Dust Brigade Operative set are the best-in-slot for many professions that dps in raids.

The Alien Invasion ICC daily (ICC AI Daily) Involves doing (up to) 3 AI City Raids, killing the boss in a Alien Mothership and finishing with Mitaar. The final reward is a lot of AIxp, and a chance for ql300 AI bots(the main part for making AI armor). The City raids and Mitaar can also drop good loot.

The PVP daily, Civil Disobedience, if done properly can be a very good source of XP. First get this daily and the Freelancer Inc. Daily from the Arbitration Drone, then go to Borealis and get the PVP Daily to participate in 3 battle-station runs. Duel someone in your range and both do /duel draw will complete the first part of Civil Disobedience. Then head to the battle-station. After each completed battle-station, return to the bar in Borealis. This will give some xp aswell as updating the Freelancer Inc. Daily!. After you completed this 3 times, you will have Freelance Inc, done. Then kill 5 notum miners(find a team) in the miner area, which can be entered at a terminal behind the 215-220 Battle-station terminal. Completing both these ICC dailies will give a lot of xp, aswell as a chance for a ICC Drone and a Damaged Freelancers Inc Recall Beacon.

Easy to get/Overlooked gear:

Vision of Destruction - Drops from Abandoned Hope on the South-East Island in The Reck. Don't IP perception to get it on, get a buff such as the Fixer Perception Buff to equip. For any dps profession this headgear is very useful due to the +2 crit and some damage.
Infused NCUs - Very good NCUs that can scale and are easy to get. Use a NCU Infuser on a ql200 Computer Deck Range Increaser/Coolant Sink/CPU Upgrade/Morphing Memory to Infuse it and it will now give a large amount of NCU. The Infusers drop very commonly from The Gaunlet, but ask in Org as people may have lots of them to give away(I have about a bag full right now if people need).
Collatz Armor - Parts to make these drop in The Gaunlet, its a long and complicated tradeskill, so bring 2-3 empty bags when you go, but it shouldnt take to many runs to get a full part made. The Right Shoulderpad is the best right shoulder ingame. The adds that the bosses spawn also drop parts so make sure to loot those aswell. The first 4 bosses can be done with as little as 3 well geared characters, so a full team should have no problem. While the tradeskill looks confusing, the raid itself is very easy to do.
