Bad Lag
Bad Lag
The reason I haven't been on lately is because I am having really bad lag, didn't have this problem until the last few patches. Just did a complete re-install of AO and still the same problem, not sure what it is, any ideas?

Hi Tealc.
Are you currently using new engine or old?
Did you upgrade to win 10 recently?

Re: Bad Lag
Good questions above! Is it your screen that seems to freeze (low frames per second) or if it your ping that is bad, like you do something and your action has an effect only after a long delay but things seem normal on the screen?
Re: Bad Lag
I've been having similar issues, also since recent patch. Connection is fine, but freezing a lot. Using the new client. Running windows 8.1 intel i5 4690 cpu radeon 290x gpu 4gig. Cant remember system ram, think i put 8gig in it. I have ao installed on the hdd, thinking i should make room on the ssd. Not sure if that would help. Ive just been trying different video settings and checking drivers. Saw some improvement but still freezes.

I am using windows 7 and the old client, just very slow moving and only seems to freeze when fighting aliens. Like you stated Chris some delay time. Had my wi-fi company come out and check my signal and they say I have a strong signal, so got a new router to see if that was the problem, still the same. Thought maybe if I deleted and re-installed might clean it up but no still having the same problem. I also went through all the different settings but can’t find one that doesn’t have the same problems. May go ahead and switch to windows 10 and download the new client and see if that helps. Didn’t really want windows 10 but if it will help with game I will do it.

Re: Bad Lag
1) do you experience slowness or lag with anything else than AO ?
2) Let's be sure about your connection (I doubt it's the connection though):
3) Can you temporarily disable all your security software (anti-virus, etc.) and see if something changes?
2) Let's be sure about your connection (I doubt it's the connection though):
- - can you go there, to those two sites, test your connection, and tell us the results?
http://www.speedtest.net/
http://www.pingtest.net/
- Open a command prompt windows in Win7: in Accessories (normally) click on "Command prompt"
In the prompt window, type
ping anarchy-online.com
and tell us the result (to copy/paste, click on the icon top left of the prompt window, select "mark" then select your results text, then clickon the icon again and select copy: you can now paste to any application
Then type
tracert anarchy-online.com
and paste the results here, as above.
3) Can you temporarily disable all your security software (anti-virus, etc.) and see if something changes?
Re: Bad Lag
Sounds more like visual lag than network lag.
Could you post your PC specs?

I agree, it looks more like something messed up somewhere in his system. Just eliminate the connection with some tests to be sure.Malosar wrote:Sounds more like visual lag than network lag.

The problem is that Tealc could run AO fine for years, so what changed?
Re: Bad Lag
Since we're talking the old client, we're focusing on the CPU only. Before loading AO, make sure there aren't any processes taking up a lot of CPU time. Press ctl-alt-del and select the Task Manager. Click on the Performance tab and make sure there's nothing really using the CPU. If there is then check under Processes and find what is causing all the CPU usage.
There could also be a heat issue. CPUs will throttle down a lot if they get really hot. If it's a desktop then make sure your system is cleaned out of dust. Too much dust in the CPU fan can eventually cause a lot of heat issues since it can't efficiently discard the heat.

Re: Bad Lag
and disable all anti-virus and security stuff a moment to try; they could possible interfere. They usually update without warning so the difference can come from there. That can easily delay the CPU in various ways.

Sorry it took me so long to respond, had three ISO audits back to back so I've been a little busy.
Running Windows 7 Home Premium on an Acer Aspire X1430G with dual-core AMD E-450 APU with 4GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon HD 6320, 64-bit OS.
Currently not running an antivirus but still have the same issue. CPU is free of dust.
Here are the results from the different tests.

Thanks for posting, Tealc.
It's definitely NOT your connection which looks OK, although your download speed on speedtest is disappointing (should be at least above 10 but maybe there was something at that time) but it shouldn't affect AO. Upload speed is OK. Ping is absolutely fine, and traceroute is fine too.
On the other hand, I need to look more into this but I'm afraid you may encounter a very frequent issue: when you have a computer with a CPU containing a graphic chip and also a real separate graphic processor... it sometimes screws up AO, up to the point it's unplayable on some machines. (On mine, it's totally fine.) But this happens on laptops normally.
Stokken, for example, has this issue on laptop.
The solution may be to find the way -IF any- to totally disable the graphic part of the CPU but it's not sure you can.
I'll look more into this and maybe someone else will have an idea.
Is this the manual for your machine?

(you can see the computer on page 12 and next ones)
Questions: since when are you using this computer to play AO? Did it ever work fine with AO? If it worked fine, whne did you noticed a change and was it after some update or something?

Re: Bad Lag
Yes, that is the manual for my computer. I have been using this computer for quite a while and it work just fine. The problems started when I had to replace my roof and the Wi-Fi antenna got moved. That is why I figured it was my Wi-Fi. But after them coming out and re-doing everything I still had the problem. As far as getting an update, could be as I seem to get a lot of them. I also had Tyk my son take a look at it as he knows more about computers then me and he basically said the same thing you did. Will get my son back over and see if he knows how or can figure out how to disable the CPU graphic. I really enjoy AO and the greatest org. in any game "AP" so I don't want to give it up.

Re: Bad Lag
We need to try disabling totally the integrated graphics and have only the graphic card working. Maybe something chnaged at some point whne a driver was updated. It's also possible that, as the integrated graphics use your RAM (they don't have their own memory), something makes them now use too much RAM (and possibly CPU for some reason) when playing AO. And AO uses a lot of RAM and CPU itself if you use the old engine, os it wouldn't be good.
I just found this at the second, so I'll post it without further or deeper thinking, already:
You might have to uninstall all the graphic drivers for integrated graphics (in the windows control panel, programs and uninstall)

http://community.acer.com/t5/2014-Archi ... d-p/241524Enter the BIOS and under Advanced Chipset Configuration -> Primary Video, change it from Auto to PCIE. And while you are in the BIOS, I would suggest making sure the Onboard Graphics Controller is set to Disabled under Integrated Peripherals. After you save your changes and exit the BIOS, upon rebooting try entering the BIOS again. If the BIOS shows, then we know the system recognizes the graphics card.
