First, you don't need to upgrade now.

You have still 11 months for the free update.

So, first, you can wait and let Windows 10 get its first fixes.

Or, you can update your computer with Widows update (when it says Win10 is ready: it's just a matter of "waiting list"), activate Windows 10 (with your Win7 key) so you have updated in the delay (and so you have a new Win10 valid license) and THEN, reverse to our Win. The files to uninstall Win10 and go back to your Win7 stay on your hard disk for 30 gays.

You can also perfectly download Win 10 directly (NOT using Windows update) here
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softwar ... /windows10

You put it on a USB key or a DVD (key is faster).

It is anyhow HIGHLY recommended that you keep a Windows 10 copy on a USB key or a DVD (and I'd say even both, or two copies anyhow).

Then you run the installer, and install Win10 on your computer or something that is NOT your Win7 disk: another USB key, another HD (which will be temporarily set in the BIOS as the boot disk), etc.

You install Win10, activate. And then you just set your Win7 disk back as boot disk. (And you can even erase the Win 10 install).

In both cases above, you have "upgraded" in the one year delay, and got a free Win10 license.

That said, there is no emergency to upgrade for good if you system works fine. Globally, unless you encounter a specific issue, Win10 works better in several regards and handles better the hardware developments of the last years.

You nevertheless lose the Media Center if you used it.

The big issue to know is that Win10 will, by default, communicate a lot of personal information and date to MS and "trusted partners" (?!). You need to turn off some or all features allowing this. Including upon install: you can work WITHOUT a MS account.

I downgraded back to Windows 7 today. Going to see if my AO and other game stability returns as it was before WIndows 10 upgrade, I'm assuming it will. Too many little issues here and there and some decent performance drops in games in general. Might give it a few months.

On a good note, reverting back to Windows 7 was 5 minutes and very painless.
