I know what all of you are thinking right now are three things...
1. You guys are crazy! How are you gonna make a decent toon without a bankroll, especially a shade and a keeper!?
2. Wow that is a pretty cool and challenging idea!
3. WTF!? O.o
So to answer those before hand, yes we are crazy, yes it is a challenge and even yes WTF is right!
So now that we got that out of the way lets meet out contestants! First we have my Shade, named "Pleasenameme", and he is Atrox. Holly has a Keeper named "Hollyknight" that is also Atrox. My Shade was conceived on Sun Apr 12 07:35:55 2009, as Holly's keeper was born shortly beforehand.
As for the idea about pretty much starting from scratch came from... Holly had a conversation with another AP orgmate about the love/hate relationship of froobs and paid player in AO and qualm of paid players having it "easy" compared to playing as a froob. Now i know that there are plenty of people on each side of that fence, but this isn't about what side, its about sitting on said fence and looking at it from both angles. Hence the no handing over resources from any of our accounts, froob or paid, and starting a fresh toon from scratch like it was our very first!
Now that the formalities are out of the way, lemme update you all on how we have been keeping sane enough to keep doing this
We started on Easter Sunday, both picking SL defendant professions, Holly's Keeper and my Shade. We got a few levels in before Faros came along and decided to join us in this "game" we were playing. He rolled a trox Shade as well and caught up quickly. Soon after all three of us were in the Jobe Backyard whacking anything we could fine with our nerf sticks (we all know how crappy that starter Keeper 2he is
) After gaining a few more levels, farming the pieces for the Silvertail daggers, and having both Faros and Holly have there Jobe startup quests bug on them we decided to start farming for our spec1 books when LK logged a level 15 enfo on that came straight off of noob island after a AI level 3 grind and helped us collect the pieces. Soon after hitting the double digit range in levels, Holly logged for the night while Faros, LK and myself went to farm some spirits. surprisingly we fair out quite well with myself acquiring a full set of spirits and as far as i know Faros as well. We went into the dungeon by Lord and Lady and gain a few more levels and some pearls (a big boost to our ever small credit pool).The next few days was hard for us as Holly and myself discussed how not to be tempted by cheating and continued our slow leveling, slowly gaining more credits, newer weapons (I was able to find two horns to make some Notum Infused Silvertail Daggers and Holly found some Guard of the Gentleman) and having some fun.
Luck did shine on me though as i was on Rubi-Ka farming some missions for shop food and creds, when on the Clan OOC, Ofab decided to give to the community and play a hide and seek game for a 1 million credit prize! Because of the rules preventing us from resourcing ourselves with our mains/alts, I found this to be a golden goose opportunity and went searching for the now hidden, and well hidden at that, Ofab. After a grueling 4-5 minutes of slow as hell running around OA, I was able to catch Ofab from the corner of my eye, sleeping halfway in a wall wedged between a box in the east end of OA. Man was I stoked as not only did I just win 1 mil in credits, I procured them on my own without any help from my mains/alts!
Earlier today, we continued our grind as we were able to get help from some of our AP orgmates, Dhel, Mow and Socio, to lead myself and Holly into SoM to aquire 2x Fear Forged Blades for my Shade as with 2x Fractured Sanity's and Neleb's Robe with ethers for Holly's Keeper. After the fun we had there, we decided to head into ToTW and start to level there as the credits from the mobs at 400 creds a body felt like a godsend to our wallets, a feeling i haven't felt in a long time
Holly was able to acquire a new weapon with the Energy Scythe and we got some levels in Currently we are around level 26 as far as i know are having fun, albeit the credit and gear crunch we are suffering from, but we are slowly getting there. I learned how to make Junkmetal armor, which is not only free (great for the budget
) but adds to your HP to boot! Well that's it for now, i will keep everyone informed of our shenanigans in AO and i hope that you enjoyed the reading!
Oh and since you were so kind in reading this, i give to you a present that Mrfreeman showed me. It has some swearing in it so make sure the kiddies/boss aren't around, but its quite fun to watch in my opinion!
