Yes, the first public version of AO new graphic engine is on Testlive. Just for the 12th Anniversary of Athen Paladins! We were born more than 12 years ago today.

How to go on Testlive
Test live is open to everyone. You will need to download a LOT of data. (Starting with 500MB of compressed files.)

Your first download THIS file and then launch it.

Warning: do NOT let the installer install in your normal Anarchy Online folder! Check the folder proposed and change it !

What's the general "feel" of the game like? I noticed a comment about areas taking longer to load because of the increased texture sizes, also wonder if the character animations are improved - the one thing that detracts from the game for me is the lack of these

Looks really good though, I don't want to load test myself as I always feel it's like spoiling a surprise

Keeping in mind this is still a Beta, zone loading is (logically) a little bit longer than with the current AO but way faster than most MMO's. SWTOR, TSW, AoC, even STO have much longer loading times between zones. With a SSD instead of a conventional hard drive, loading times are decreased noticeably (the rest of the time is CPU processing).

Animations are the same for the old stuff. I don't think that old animations will be significantly redone, or redone anytime soon. Several visual effects have been revamped though.

I reactivated my account as I simply had to take a look! I couldn't believe it when I saw it posted on the AO Facebook group (which is primarily how I keep up with various AO stuff). Irrespective of the state of AO nowadays, I know I'll be returning to at least a casual state upon release of the new engine and I was astounded when I saw it was actually pushed to testlive.

It has its glitches and I haven't actually tested any real playing, combat etc. but damn I can't wait for it to go live! I didn't expect it to look like a modern MMO as I know the limits of the existing assets and the task involved (ahead?) to redo a lot of it (main geometry), so I like what I see here.

Presumably the move to the new game engine will pave the way for more graphics updates in the months to come.
