Do you use Item Assistant?

Post by Hyde »

The author created a new Database rip:

http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile ... _id=256876

I've just installed it and confirmed that all your new items from the past year will show up in it. Making IA much more usable again.

EDIT: the main program's documentation, etc, can be found at http://ia.frellu.net/

Thanks for this very useful information. :) Too bad the program itself got no improvements.

does this tool update its own DB only when you go through on each character and open bags, etc or does it automatically sweep through and grab everything?

You have to do this:

1) If the bag is in your inventory, open it once

2) If the bag is in your bank, drag it to your inventory once and then back to the bank (no need to open it, the data is seen when you move it out of the bank)

3) Once that is done, just keep the program running, it will see every new item/moved item and will track deletions.

It does this using the same types of hooks that Clicksaver uses, and is as safe as Clicksaver. Chrisax, Mophro and I have used it for a year+ now and surely one of us would be worthy of hacking if our login information had been intercepted.

Other than telling it the location of your AO installation there is no configuration. It will auto-detect which toon it is storing data for, and can definitely track multiple toons at one time (in case of being dual logged).

It takes under a minute to catalog everything you own on a toon, and if you have your bags named it will read the bag names so you can find things very quickly. It doesn't help as much if your bank bags aren't named (since it will show all the items as being in "Small Backpack" or whatever container).

Its very unobtrusive. I put it in my "Startup" folder and minimize it when logging in. It hides to the notification tray and "just works". If you don't do this it is very easy to forget to run it and eventually your database gets out of sync. However, if it gets out of sync its still pretty quick to recatalog stuff.

The big flaw in the program is that it doesn't auto-update the game items database after each patch like Clicksaver does. The author says he's working on that, but he's said that for awhile (like, a year). But even in the current form its quite useful.

It also has an excellent PB pattern piece matcher.

Likely, yes. But actually I always had some attempts from IA to connect to random (?) addresses on the Internet, although usually things like google. I always blocked it with my firewall.

The author I contacted said he had no idea about what was happening.

I posted about that here when it happened:
http://www.athenpaladins.org/forums/vie ... php?t=2577

I'm not saying the software is spyware and probably Hyde and Mophro would have been in trouble if it was. Still I hate the idea of a software making attempts to connect to addresses that make no sense, and I still block it.

The only drawback is I can't use some functions but the inventory works OK.

Teredoc tried to compile the code provided on SourceForge and found an exe file much smaller than the one we can download but the resulting exe could not initialize. See Tere's post at the URL above.

I wonder if someone could try again?

is there a way to make items assistant and AO start at the same time by using a batch file?

I think Bredin said he got it working?

And btw, its Vista that doesn't like IA, not the other way around :P Vista's new security is solid, but VERY un-friendly to older programs.

Does it help to use the compatibility functions of Vista with AI?

Maybe try to use the Vista Program Compatibility Wizard?

The problem is maybe you'll have to run AI in administrator mode, which, of course, lowers the security of the system.

I'm on XP and to be honest, I'll stay on XP as long as possible.
