Problems with the launcher

Right. I've been away from AO for the last few weeks because my trusty laptop decided to stop charging for (as far as I can tell) no reason on this earth. So I decided today to download it onto the communal house computer.
Back story over.
I've downloaded the launcher, but whenever I try and load it up, after logging in the screen goes black, the A graphic comes up as if it's all working fine, but then it closes itself down automatically.
Naturally this is a little bit frustrating.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?
