Someone already used Paypal to pay for his subscription?

Post by Chrisax »

I investigated the (relatively new) Paypal option for AO subscriptions and products because an AP member had some trouble and was looking for alternate ways to pay for his subscription.

To my great surprise, If you create a Paypal option, you are never asked for you Paypal account name. It just put "Paypal" in the "payment option" line for the subscription on the Home page.

So I had an interesting chat with Support, that ended so far in
"You do not need to enter your PayPal account name into our account system."
Which is somewhat surprising.

Unless they ask each month by email to validate a Paypal payment, I hardly see how they can get paid.

Is this the case? How does it work?

Here is the chat with billing support:
Support: Hello,
To use PayPal, you must connect on your account page. There, add the
payment option under the left-side menu option "Manage Payment Options"
and then "Add new Payment Option". Once it is added you can use it to
complete payments. Select your intended purchase under "Paid Services"
and choose your previously created PayPal payment option. You will get
to a page with a green box showing "Congratulations - Your account will
be upgraded once payment has been completed". At the bottom of this
page, click the "Submit Payment" button to get the link for finishing
the transaction.
Thank you for contacting Funcom customer support.

Me: Thank you for your reply.
Unfortunately, it doesn't answer my question as it was "where do I enter my
Paypal account name?". Currently I can choose Paypal as an option, there is
no problem. But I never had to enter anywhere the name of the Paypal account
I want to use, so I hardly see how you will be able to get paid for
anything. If I click on the Paypal icons on the "edit paymenet" page or
while creation the new way of payment, it opens a window providing
information about Paypal but nothing where I can tell you what my Paypal
account I wish to use is.
Maybe iI missed something, and I apologize, but I really can't find where I
can provide the Paypal account information.
Regards

Me: I perfectly understand what you're saying if it's about buying something specific once.

But if I register Paypal as a recurring payment option for subscriptions, and then set it to pay for a monthly subscription, there are no windows or whatever opening. It will just put the name of my Paypal option in "Payment Option" on the Home page.

Unless you email me each month so I can proceed to a Paypal payment, I can't see how you will get paid without knowing what account to charge and without an authorization.
Waiting...

I payed for shars acc last month to see how paypal works. All i know is that shar's acc is active but i havent gotten my bill ( via cred card) yet, but i'll prolly get it this week or the next. It was easy to use paypal u just have to follow the instructions on the webpage. But then again i always payed for my accounts for a year and after i removed my payment details. So this option is perfect for me since i can now pay in $ instead of €.

For a year its or 109€ or 95$ and that's 70€ so that's 40€ less. If u have 3 acc's like me paying in $ gives me a acc for free.

However if you pay monthly the small fees taken by Paypal etc will make it more expensive or equally expensive as paying in €. Only worth it if you pay 6/12 months.

Also to answer original topic: I tried using paypal but couldn't figure out how to pay PayPal themselves so I ended up using my credit card.

As far as i know i dont pay any fee to use paypal as a buyer. Maybe its the seller thats pay's the fee.

Btw one of my acc's got frozen today so i reactivated via paypal. I just had to follow the links on the site and after clicking submit payment u get linked to a paypal site where u need to use ur paypal login and go on from there.
