SWTOR Guild Ranks compared to AO

Post by Hyde »

(Edit : all the following may be changed (or not) once we know how things are really in SWTOR.)

General FYI on the ranks in the guild in SWTOR is below.

New people to AP will come in as Recruits for a 2-week-ish probationary period just like AP in AO.

Existing AO members in good standing immediately get their current AO rank equivalent (Unit Member in AO gets Member in SWTOR, Unit Leaders/Commanders become Lieutenants, Generals/Squad Commands get Officer).

This means there are 2 FEWER ranks in SWTOR, but the overall capabilities map very well to how we use ranks in AO since we barely ever used Unit Commander except as an honorific title and Squad Commander only needed to be different from General for honorific as well as to allow city shields to be dropped (which we won't need to worry about).

NOTES:
  • We may add the honorifics in later, but for now given the lower guild size, keeping it trim makes more sense.
  • All NEW invites are, by default, "Recruit" when invited. Promote as needed when inviting.
  • There is a new rank, "Chat-locked", for cases where someone needs to be squelched on chat but a /gkick isn't necessarily desired (examples: someone drunk, someone's kid playing, etc). DO NOT use this rank frivolously please, it is a tool. It is "above" Recruit in the list of ranks only because it allows us to invite new players as Recruits that are NOT squelched. Otherwise this should be considered the lowest possible rank.

When inviting a toon to the guild, please remember to:

1) Promote the toon if necessary

2) Add a MEMBER note for that toon that has either their AO main toon name (if they are an AO player) OR their SWTOR main name (if they are a SWTOR-only player).

Example: Chrisxa's MEMBER note says "Chrisax" so that people will know his main name if they want to reach him. Mine are all listed as "Hyde", Rabbit's MEMBER note is set to "Mud", etc.

3) We haven't yet decided what to put in Officer's Notes. My guess is these will be mini-forums where we track Recruit probationary period, notes about other people sharing the account, etc. Feel free to use this field (if you have access to it) however you feel is needed. Be aware that these notes aren't as prominent, so don't EXPECT other people to read them

... translation: continue to use the forums, too.

I'll just add at the moment:

- All the above may be changed (or not) once we know how things are really in SWTOR.

- All the above will likely change when we are in three games and / or when we simplify / unify the rank systems

- The guild interface in SWTOR is either bugged or awkward so we may not always be able to do what we want. (For example, so far, it seems that new recruits are automatically set to the last rank created... so we already had to find workarounds to implement the "muted" pseudo-rank.)
