I've used Ventrilo myself for the past 3-4 years. When Naverone and I are playing AO we always hang out in Ventrilo (using an older server from our WoW guild)

That is true. My WoW guild, namely Guild of SUN decided to make it a requirement to use Ventrilo and own a headset in order to join the guild, but that's a rather drastic measure of course. Wouldn't expect AP to do the same, however it works...
I also played wow, and the requirement was 18+ years and using ventrilo. (or 18+ years old good looking girl, picture/address/phone number required) j/k
