 You think Eizo is expensive?!... Wait... meet Barco... :badcomp:
Order your LC-5621 now and save ¼ off the original list price
This is your chance to buy your Barco 56-inch Quad HD at the very attractive price of 19,500 euro or USD 26,000.

And if I recall correctly, this one (Reference Monitor) was close to 50 000 USD

(Barco usually doesn't display prices, you have to ask them to quote you.)

I'm installing and testing so I should be back tomorrow.... time to be afraid for you all!

Now I'll have a 22 inches so I can watch you all better!

Now I'd just need the reseller to understand he charged my credit card twice.... and refund. [-o<
(Yes, Murphy again.)

And, BTW, Cutie, yes of course, Barco is a maker professional equipment for specific needs, but I can assure you that, even professionally, a lot of people (and that means me too) think their prices are totally insane.

Well, TBH, I went for (relatively) cheap as I'm still willing to change the whole system sometimes in May/June.

I wanted first to get a Viewsonic but it was not available since Monday, and I had no time to run from a store to another. So I finally picked up a 22 inches Wide Asus (after verifying there was no LCD panel issue, as Asus had the bad habit to use several panels for a same model, but nothing to do with the mess in Samsung monitors not long ago).

It's very decent. I wouldn't calibrate a photo for professional use on it of course (I have my Eizo with its calibration system for my work for that use) but for the web or everyday stuff, it's really correct.

On the other hand, the factory settings of the 5 display modes are questionable. And modifying them is a bit awkward. The main issue being that what each setting do is not documented in the docs (there is a 196 pages manual but in fact it's the same 7 pages in a zillion languages) and just a bit more in a manual available on the web site.

Obviously, factory settings are made to be spectacular and give a very bright image, perfect for making the screen very visible and attractive in a store, or when you just unpacked it and are showing it to the family. They have to be seriously redone and then it's alright.

It's 1680x1055 pixels, 16/10, and... 2ms (which of course is a joke as usual).

I still have to test on AO. At first sight, the image was sharp, even a bit too much maybe, and the contrast was probably too high (some old textures really hurt the eyes). Possibly an effect of the last ATI drivers too for the new card. I assume I'll have to fine tune a mode for AO, as I did, BTW, for DVD although I don't use my comp a lot for DVDs.

Now, as I always say, what I want is a button to tell all the hardware and software "OMG DO NOTHING! STOP TRYING TO "IMPROVE" THE IMAGE ALONE AND LET ME SET EVERYTHING AS I WANT". Fed up with Adobe Gamma, ATI drivers, and Asus stuff (plus the own settings of some software) all interfering with each other if you don't take drastic measures.

Well, I also got a new HD, as the current one gets a bit crowded with a ton of files. I got a 750GB Seagate Barracuda, 7200RPM, 32MB cache.

Nice.. I did some PC upgrading too recently.

Got myself a 500 GB Western Digital SATA2 harddrive, I believe with 16mb cache.

Along with that, a new WLAN card, Edimax 7128-EW or something and it rocks (plug-and-rock with Ubuntu, no need to ndiswrapper anything at all) though it does seem to have some problems connecting to our speedtouch access point from Windows Vista Ultimate (x64). That started very weird, first couple days it worked absolutely like a charm. Owell, think I'll have to blame Vista since Ubuntu has no problems with the same hardware. :)

Then, Logitech was so kind to mail me a brand new G11 for free :P because my Tab, Esc, F1, Capslock keys had stopped working.. well, the way it worked out in the end, you don't hear me complaining! :D

Last, but certainly not least, I finally ditched my old 17" CRT monitor, iiyama visionmaster s704HT for those that want to laugh (yeah I know it WAS bad). Now, I've got the Samsung VisionMaster T200, it looks nice, has 2ms stuffies, and more. The epeen-length is displayed here. ;)
