off-topic but can the PS3 play WMV files? I'm seriously pondering buying a PS3 for a media center and this would cinch it for me.

Personally I think FC goofed on one thing ... they should have done an identical version of the movies using the current engine to show the differences.

Almost sounds too good to be true! With a new engine and some dedicated developers this game should outclass the current sci-fi MMOs by far. As long as they make the game-engine better, I don't fancy buying 8GB of ram or something to be able to run the thing.

Hmm, maybe time to re-evaluate my no-AO policy...

Its directx 9 still but very good in terms of what AO is running with atm
looks a lot better and it should handle new graphics hardware better (which is
whats important mostly).

@doc PS3 can handle wmv and divX as of version 2.10 of the firmware and it works pretty well. I've bought one to use as a multimedia extender and it works great, plus you get that bluray drive for HD movies for free with it.
After CES looks like bluray is going to win the battle of the formats as well.

If you do get one, try to get the older 60gig version that supports PS2 games with hardware. The newer 40gig ones might be cheaper, but doesn't have that hardware anymore.

@chris there are a lot of mature people looking for scifi themed mmos atm and I must admit I ve pointed out AO to them because its still a good game aside from the trouble it has because of its age. Those problems should get better with a new engine (or worse hehe you never know with deep changes).
Hell if it is half as good of an engine I ll come back myself and beat up muddy in game for provoking me in that other thread hehe

Yeah I found the answer and ordered immediately. Found a 60GB in the states for only about $50 more than the 40G and $50 less than the 80G (which will do emulation but partially in software, 60G is all in hardware).

Should get it next week

Will be a good excuse to play out of AO for a bit!

lol it's fine if you do have access...but we don't....can you post it like some where only ap or ap officers can read it so that those who don't have test access can get peek at it

I did that.

It was just a topic asking when the engine would hit testlive, no pictures, no movies, no nothing. Just an official guy saying it'd be here on testlive within 6 months. And the same guy saying you'd need a DX9 vidcard.

happy birthday news of new graphics engine!!

u are 1 year old today. by the time u are realesed, i will prolly have a pc with a graphics card that can play u! hoooray.

anyone think FC are still working on this? :^o . i know triangualting pixelshading textures to mipmap antialiasing fonts is hard work for bangladeshy programmers, but they could just say a dog eat my homework on the way to work. I could belive that.

maybe a new game director(publicity machine)would help speed things up.

Anyway!! hope to see u all real soon. when im more settled irl., going thru some hard times atm but im 8) and still smiling
