So trying to load AO on my mom's laptop for her, have loaded it 4 times, it fails, so I just uninstall and try again, 4 times is enough.
Here is the message I got now
Fatal Error. Couldn't complete the patching-operation due to a locked file.
Please restart your computer and start Anarchy again.
This comes up over and over after I launch AO, made it to a 17.(something) patch before this started happening, now it says "Performing patch cleanup..." then I get Error message.
Running Windows Vista on this comp. and AO has been on it before.
any ideas? if not Debs won't be playing AO ever again because I refuse to waste my time patching all over again.

Re: Mom's Computer and AO
Mud, try installing as administrator under Vista or disable UAC. Also possibly turn off Vista firewall and MS anti-malware software.
Cavey had maybe a similar problem and it seems that fixed it:

Re: Mom's Computer and AO
0) No matter which of the following you try, always double-check that "Everyone" has full control over the AO folder in file permissions.Chrisax wrote:Mud, try installing as administrator under Vista or disable UAC. Also possibly turn off Vista firewall and MS anti-malware software.
1) Don't install it to the "Program Files" directory. Doing that is a permissions issue due to the ancient AO installer. I -think- AO lets you choose the directory for install?
I put my AO on D:\games\funcom\anarchy online ... C:\[anything except program files] is fine.
2) Try Chris's suggestion. Doing it as an Administrator will help. However you'll still have problems patching unless she's always on that account and it is (again) not in "Program Files".
3) If 1 & 2 don't fix it then install to a different PC and just copy the whole thing over either on a USB stick or a network file share. AO doesn't NEED to be installed. It doesn't use the registry or anything. The installer is just a way to make it easier on XP.
Re: Mom's Computer and AO
ao works on vista and win7 with uac on and comodo (if you are using windows firewall just download comodo instead), copying an already patched working installation as described in doc's 3rd suggestion is probably your best bet.

Re: Mom's Computer and AO
What Hyde said. Nice summary. Thanks to Core for the info about comodo too.
Yes, it does. AO can be installed anywhere. Mine is on D: and my test versions are on E:Hyde wrote: I -think- AO lets you choose the directory for install?
Yes, and, to make it even clearer, in general, once you have AO somewhere, you can just copy the whole folders structure and files to any other disk/folder/computer, and just re-create the shortcuts accordingly. Don't download the client again, or anything complicated.Hyde wrote:If 1 & 2 don't fix it then install to a different PC and just copy the whole thing over either on a USB stick or a network file share.
