Guess its a matter of definition. In my book, its Animals, fish, birds, plants and insects, but in my GFs book every living thing are animals (xept plants ofc) and then its divided into subgroups.

For everyone debating the definition of an animal, hit the show-thingie. It doesn't contain the answer of Jimson's riddle.

Animals are usually multicellular creatures, and always eukaryotes. Mammals, fishes, birds, and insects are a part of this group.

Bacteria, Archaea, fungi, plants, etc, are not.

The black line, where everything stems from, is called LUCA: Last Universal Common Ancestor. It's of course not very likely everything stems from just *one* ancestor.
