AO music

Post by Mortus »

I saw a post on the official boards about the AO music and listened to some of the music linked there, and it's quite nice. I'm normally a big fan of game and film-soundtracks and listen to it a lot. However I turned the music in AO off quite soon after I started playing AO as it acts fairly bugged and goes on and off at random times. Especially the battle-music never works as one would imagine (ie goes on when battle and off when out of battle). Even when I from time to time turn the music ingame back on I never find it anything special, it's mostly the same samesongs over and over again (because I am in the same areas). Anyway, from what I read in the post and links AO's soundtrack is considered very good so I thought I'd give it a shot again. I'm liking it so far, but I'm listening to the mp3s now and not ingame so no annoying randomization :) This gives a nice variety and I listen to songs I never heard (or heard but didnt notice) before.

If you look in your AO folder you will actually find all the music but splitted in all it's parts. The game assembles and plays out the score from theese short snippets of sound. I don't know if this is a common way of creating the score, but I find it very facinating.

I'm gonna have winamp running with the AO score running when playing, with the ingame music turned off :) There's some tunes that I've hardly ever heard, like the Jobe lounge-music and Desert Dub. Listening to the same tunes over and over (for me inferno missions and Old Athens theme) is unnccesary when there are hours of good music in AO (not to mention it gets boring). Anyway, not gonna babble on more: here's the links, download and listen!

Just rediscovered these mp3s in my collection. AO main theme and some of the omni tunes are really nice. Usually play with music off, so the music is still fresh to me :)

What's your favourites?

Hi, Peter. What's happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports. Yeah. The coversheet. I know, I know. Uh, Bill talked to me about it.
Yeah. Did you get that memo?
Yeah. I've already taken care of it so it's not even really a problem anymore.
