Tried a whole bunch of combinations of my video driver setup, run in window/ borders, etc.
NOt working. I managed to finally log in once, did a city raid, then logged out and wanted to try with a more optimized video card setup (the default one AO picked gave me about 3 fps).
Anyhow, can't log in again, and shield is down. Sorry!

No problem, Noobas, we'll raise that shield for you. 
But your issue is weird (although I heard that Xyilor of Phoenix Rising got a problem too (no idea if it's the same): I guess no one in AP experienced a similar thing (so far?). Some had to chnage some settings though, after last patch.
Any info you could supply so we could maybe help you?

I moved my AO folder out of program files and into it's own file folder not in my OS files.
This worked.
And I found my boots+sleeve, they are on ineedamedic. and he's welcome to hang on to them for a while since I don't play all that much.
