What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
Templar, Lumi, or Dragon?
Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
should we set up a forums vote?
General, Athen Paladins
Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
I was thinking the same thing, but would love to hear everyone's general thoughts first. (especially people who are more knowledgeable)
My first reaction was to go Lumi, mostly out of love for the streets of New York, trashy clubs, fat wads of cash, and general rock n' roll lifestyle. RAWR!!
The more I think about it, though, Templar seem like the obvious choice for AP. I mean, which faction is a true Brotherhood? Who are the Paladins of this world? Who has the clearest collective vision of what needs to be done in the face of overwhelming evil?
Yet I tested out as a Dragon. Go figure. T'was prolly that katana question.
~
Anyway - The most important thing for me is that we enter this game as a guild. I'll roll with whatever the established guildies decide.
Chris & Co.: Can you offer any impressions of the factions w/o violating the NDA?

Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
We will have a poll but it's a bit early ATM. We can still discuss, informally.
I always thought of Dragon, as the philosophy looked more interesting in the previews but i'm not sure now. Also the dragon is the last implemented faction and i'm not sure how good it will be on launch.
If I had to play solo (which is NOT the case), maybe Illmuminati would have my vote. Just to be a (nice... it's just me) jerk.
But maybe, finally, Templar, which I first rejected, cul be a good choice. More polished already, fitting better with "paladins"... don't know.
Note that 99% of the powers and items won't be affected by the choice of faction. And we can always role-play the nice ones in any faction. (BTW, in Beta, Paladina, wth her post-junkie destroy look is quite atypical for a templar.)

I initially tested as Dragon, but changed over to Templar, as I think it fits more with the character I have in mind, and I think it will be the most interesting.
But the Dragon is probably the society with the broadest spectrum of attitudes, so maybe AP'd fit better in there.

Hmmm. This video gave me the impression that we may not be able to have alts in multiple factions.

Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
It's unclear at the moment. There are pro and con arguments discussed as far as I know.
(Of course, like in WoW at the beginning, two accounts solve everything.)

Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
The lack of classes discourages alts anyway, but I think that if it's possible we're going to be restricted to one faction on an account level, it's even more important to get on the same page prior to launch.
Now that you've played the game some more, does any faction draw you more, Chris?

Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
Faction (societies) specific stuff / quest lines are not currently released (on purpose), except the first steps with your faction and the PvP uniforms. So it's hard to say. There is a major new beta step incoming soon though.
I think the best we'll be able to do is to provide as much information as we can in May (open public beta will be running so the most interested people would have joined at that time) and have AP's voting (with the possibility to change votes).
So far, the most polished faction is The Templars (it was the first in the making); the least one, The Dragon. This will have to be taken in consideration too, possibly.
Don't rely too much on the "society test" telling you if you are "made" to be Illuminati, Templar, or Dragon.
For example (and with all possible restrictions), it seems that being in The Dragon meant you were manipulating things in secret, but, after the released video (and some experience), it seems you are also manipulated yourself a lot.
Currently, the "classy" Templars could be quite attractive, knowing that you can perfectly be an atypical, gothic / emo / trash / cyberpunk / whatever atypical one (like Paladina). The contrast is even fun.
We'll see. Maybe we could have a sort of pre-poll but not sure it's relevant ATM (?)

Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
Hi i'm following the secret world.
Did the tests and such, i believe they put me in Dragon.
But in the end i may have the best feeling with the gas masked Illumanti.
greets, eNa.

I think the time is drawing near for us to choose.

True... But so few people could really experience the factions.Crash wrote:I think the time is drawing near for us to choose.

Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
For me, it's very hard to tell anything about factions so far. All the players I run into openly state they plan on changing factions at launch, so I don't even try to determine population, community vibe, etc.
Random notions:
I like London as a starting area. I like it much more than New York, which surprised me. (I guess it just doesn't feel like NY) I haven't rolled in Seoul yet. Maybe this coming weekend.
Lumi seems to be the consensus largest population from chatter, but I have nothing solid to base that on. I'm just quoting people who could very well be talking out of their arse.
As for Dragon, they have the coolest PvP outfits by far. I was inclined to hate them from early battles in Fusang, but I've grown to envy their "Mexican wrestlers in track suits" look.
So yep ... my faction preference may boil down to a fondness for Mexican wrestling masks. Pretty deep of me, eh?

Re: What will Paladins be in The Secret World?
Oops. I forgot to state my concern(s).
The more folks I'm getting to know in TSW, the more I want to start establishing relationships & possibly recruiting. The subject has come up a couple of times, but not knowing my faction has stopped the conversation pretty quickly.
I'm also going to do my best to avoid re-rolling. Ever. Chances are, whatever faction I am on June 29th, that's the faction I'll remain.
