HAPPY 3rd BIRTHDAY AP ! The first messages on our forums...

Post by Chrisax »

THREE YEARS....

We were created on June 10th, three years ago, at the top of the Watchtower of West Athen as the two suns were rising.

I can't say how proud I am of all what we achieved during the past three years.

Yesterday, by getting my boots in the Biodome and, thus, beating the greatest challenge on Rubi-Ka as an org, you offered me a wonderful birthday present. :)

Soon, we'll have a new role in the life Rubi-Ka with all what we are preparing for the Clans. Our private forums will tell you more and more about this.

On this day, I wanted to give the opportunity to all of you, young Paladins or Oldtimers, to discover the very first messages posted on our first forums... Here they are, then a small selection, great memories...

Memories

Post by Chrisax »

The beginning of AP, the first posts, the first Paladins, the first rants against ninja-looting, the release of Inner Sanctum, a comment about a sapling that could be dangerous to feed, the first rules of AP, the coming of the Shadowlands...

Chrisax wrote:WELCOME AND THANK YOU
The Athen Paladins were created by a group of 6 at the top of the watchtower north of West Athen, as the suns were rising : a new dawn for us all.

In the following hour, our number increased wonderfully.

Thank you ALL for joining; thank you for gathering our family again.

Thank you also for my election, and I want to remind you that the President must not be a kind of forever-elected king. Our rules will make the president change several times in a year. I\'ll be happy to stick with this rule I wanted since start.

I\'ll post other messages on several topics here quite soon. Please, do the same.

Alos, please take the time to check this board a minute every day : this a a great way to keep in touch. Hats off for Cirrus who installed this board almost instantly. You\'re great Cir !

Special last thanks for the 6 persons of the creation team who settled the org and their commitment.

Long live to the Athen Paladins !

Chris is very good at making speeches, thank goodness! Somebody would have to make a lovely speech to for the first post-His High Uberness Chrisax the Great did a wonderful job of it! Go Chris!

May the Athen Paladins outlast the Rangers!

Let\'s make people COMMUNICATE constantly (or we might face soon the problem the rangers had).

If you all advisors agree, please incitate people to use this message board !

By telling them to do so of course, but also by **making this board live** (not only the advisors one !) :

- post tips, advice, information, faq, etc... It does not have to be long. It may be even better if it is short !
- start topics (do not be disapointed if a topic does not "work"

-adn anything you may think of :-)

Kostoss wrote:ACK NINJA LOOTING!!
I am starting to feel guilty about moaning on this subject ad nauseam but it does seem to need some addressing. Although a few cases can be explained away as n00b behaviour or over zealousness in my opinion this abhorrent behaviour is on the increase. It may be because I have started a few new characters lately but in my opinion Funcom does nothing to address this seemingly increasing problem.
My solution would be to award each member of a successful team to receive a boss kill loot bonus in the same way as completing a mission. Either that or the loot is distributed randomly and can only be picked up by the specific character.
Rant over and i solemnly swear not to bring this up in org chat again (well until the next time anyway!).
Chrisax wrote:14.9 is the last patch before Shadowlands (except if a fix patch is necessary).

It is a pre-SL patch in a way because some of the elements of SL seems to be already in it but not activated.

The great news is the Inner Sanctum is now open. The long-awaited Inner Sanctum is supposed to be the high-level version of the Temple of the Three Winds. I\'ll try to step in and give you more info.

The great bad news is... the Gunner Cap and Globe-Trotter helm that everybody could wear at any level (and even fixers with a Grid Armor already on,!) have been fixed ! So now it seems impossible to wear them again.

Also, a new kind of dynacamp has appeared... hard to say right now how it really works.

For the rest, here is the official text, in the case you missed it.

(from : http://www.anarchy-online.com/content/g ... tion/live/)

Content Upgrade: Inner Sanctum
Thursday July 3rd 2003

A small, albeit devout, cult worshipping the power of the three winds of time was discovered ob Rubi-Ka some time ago. Hidden inside their massive temple complex, they had for decades tried to unleash the power of the three winds that they thought would lead them on a journey to paradise.

Now the seal to the Inner Sanctum has broken. Hezak the immortal, the enigmatic cult leader, is thus unveiled at last. It’s been reported that the zealous cult subordinates deals with any threat interfering with their secret rituals. Citizens are warned to keep away.

Other world changes
Due to a large number of participants and spectators, we\'ve found it necessary to split both the Omni-1 and Tir arenas off from the surrounding city.

Be aware that fertilizing saplings can have deadly consequences.(...)
Chrisax wrote:We were created on June 10th.

At this time we thought that the President should be elected each month, and could no be elected 3 times in a row.

So there should be elections now.

At the meeting, advisors pointed out the following:

-they are anxious of "anyone" being able to become the president because there is no way to make a president resign, the president can instantly disband the org if he is in a bad mood (this happened once to Notum Syndicate), he can as well take the money and run, and he is also the only who can speak on the leaders\' channel without any control. Also a bad prez can spoil all the work done before he was elected (my remark: about this last point, this is the risk in every democracy).

-as long as we vote for decisions, we are in democracy, regardless of the president\'s status

-at the moment no advisor wants to become president (but Kostoss was not there to say)

-voting system of AO is far from perfect but should be used for votes (this means every people can vote, from applicants to prez). We have to trust people, because a person with several characters could in fact vote several times.

-many people are online only a few days in a month and so they can know only the president of the time, and could vote for him again simply because they do not know another prez.

At the end, no decision was taken but the ideas were:

-make the prez mandate longer (3 months or more)
-make the prez permanent until there is a vote for another or against him
-organize a first vote very soon to decide not about a new president but already about the rules we want

Now, as for myself, I must add:
- the vote system is a very simple one, so the question aksed must be clear and simple (and only one question at a time)
- as I am the current prez, it is not for me to say what the rules should be, especially if they make a mandate last longer!
- I do not care becoming an advisor and I consider this normal, so please do not think I\'d be vexated not to be the president anymore, for one month or one year! :)
- Remember that changing the prez was MY idea
- I shall not do like some statesmen who changed the rules once they were elected!
-I discovered there is a POLL system on this board that can be used too !

It would be better that advisors, and not I, organize the debate here and/or online, and the vote, if any.

Up to you now :D

1) Recruitment policy

We need your last comments and suggestions, if any, about the following, for this is going to be our policy and we need to start recruiting fast now.

- We are good friends and we want to remain an organization of friends
- We want to help people to help themselves and raise their characters and not to assist them permanently or do their job
- We do not want selfish, arrogant, or rude people
- We want people who share, help, are friendly, and team well

So :

- We want to know people at least a bit before inviting them; this can be done by teaming, chatting, working together, or helping (and see how the person reacts to our help),…

- Real life friends and family are welcome, regardless of their level, because they are considered "known"

- Friends and teammates of AO (or from other games) are extremely welcome !!!!

- Experienced players are welcome, regardless of the level of the character they bring into the org

- For other people, the lower level to join the Paladins would be 20, although it is not mandatory. This level does not apply to alts of course! (Note that a very cool person can be invited under level 20)

- All alts are automatically welcome in the org

- A new person will be an applicant for two weeks (except if decided otherwise by the advisors and the president, for very special reasons)

- If we cannot team with a new person, we will watch him/her on org chat during his/her applicant period

- If we were cautious before inviting a person, it should be quite rare to have to kick the person at the end of the two weeks

- We will stop recruiting low levels (but above 20) if -and as soon as- we see we\'re spending more time teaching people than doing anything else

- (Not discussed at the meeting) Only Advisors, Veterans, President are able to invite; members and applicants can of course propose new people

- (Not discussed at the meeting) Promoting to the Veteran status is technically done by the president after a vote of advisors and president; this is based on personal merit, commitment to the org, and fair behaviour

- All professions and tome zones are welcome. We MUST fill gaps in time zones, as well as in some professions.

- Recruiting people in the range where we have Paladins able to team is of course a must for everyone

- (Not discussed at the meeting) It would be great that highest characters LEVEL UP so we can attract high characters! (Not all of them are in orgs, or some may have left one)

2) Promotions

Xioying is our first Veteran :)

3) Making people use the message board

Proposals:
- The wish list thread (everyone can ask for help to mission an item, do a quest etc). No wish can be accepted if not posted on the message board !
- The loot lists (highest members loot some dynacamps or dungeons and we create a loot list. If someone needs an item, he posts a message.
- Teams and raids threads: for big or unusual operations, start threads

When all that (and maybe more) is ready, start insisting on the org chat about the board. (No use to insist as long as the board is not ready)

4) A shared account and shared characters

Weric has kindly opened an account that the founders of the Paladins can use. This will allow us to have one or more shared characters, very useful for buffs, storage, etc. By playing these characters a bit, each of us, we could level them decently without too much work.

The account name and password MUST NOT be posted on this message board !

5) Tower questions and tower characters

We had no time to discuss this in depth. It is essential that we take stock of those questions.

- How (and who) are the characters / alts now?
- How ready are they?
- Work together to equip them (temple runs, help with implants, armors, weapons, etc)

6) A place to meet for the Paladins

Like the table was for the rangers… Everybody please search!

COMMENTS AND REMARKS PLEASE :)
